Gina's First Kill |
| Gina's First Kill
by Jesse Nightingale ©)2004 After leaving the village I decided to make for the CM Team Base which was a two hour journey by horse. So I decided to walk to a friends farm where I could borrow a horse. It was a typical late summer day, warm and humid and I wanted to get to the farm by nightfall. I usually don't like traveling alone on these traveling paths but over the years I have had very little difficulties with attacks. While I was walking I was thinking about my father's upcoming birthday, who to invite, what kind of party, etc. The beauty of the early evening really struck me, the fields were green with crops, the trees were full of birds singing, the air of the woods full of life. I stopped at a small brook to get a drink and to cool off my feet a little. I was about an hour into my journey to the farm and I decided to have a small snack too. After a fifteen minute rest I decided to start down the path again. While I was approaching a corn field I sensed that someone was close, I noticed a few birds making to an erratic flight takeoff and heard a male voice muttering. At first I thought this was the farmer of these fields but more and more I heard the mutterings I soon came to the conclusion that this wasn't the farmer because of the dialect of the voice, sounded like a Western Kogasuma dialect, odd since I was well inside CM territory. I slowed down and looking for a place to hide. I didn't really want a confrontation if at all possible, especially this close to my fathers birthday. Alas, he did spot me and gave a quick "Hey, there girl". Oh boy I thought, what does he want, what kind of character is this. As I approached him he seemed to be a Kogasuma mercenary by his dress, odd for the location but not totally uncommon. He was about forty years-old, five feet ten inches tall, about one hundred eighty-five pounds. He was somewhat shabbily dressed too, very old uniform, poorly kempt, his face poorly shaven, unhygienic, and caring a small bag which had a few weapons attached. He asked me my name and gave me glare that shot chills down my spin. I told him my name was Gina but refused to disclose my last name or my occupation. He gradually came closer and closer to me until he was almost within my "personal space". I told him calmly to please step back a little and I didn't was confrontation. He laughed, I could smell chewing tobacco on his breath, then demanded me to come closer and answer him. I now really regretted not caring my Naginata or another weapon with me, something I rarely travel without. Then I sensed he had had enough of the conversation and was going to attack me. As I stepped back he lunged at me. I was able to dart into the nearby corn field before he could grab me. I ran for about a minute threw the corn field. The corn stalks were about six to six and a half feet tall, towering over me. I zig-zagged threw the field to hopefully lose him, knocking over a few corn stalks along the way. I could hear him behind me for a while but soon lost him. I heard him then scream that he was going to kill me, his voice full of rage and still close. I continued to wind my way threw the field, trying not to make any unnecessary noises. After a few minutes I knew I couldn't shake him off my trail for too long and had to make a decision that I had hoped never to really make but was trained my whole life to. I had to kill this guy before he killed me. After I got to a spot that I thought I was safe in the field I stopped and kneeled down. I tried to get a sense of where he was and noticed he was still a good measure of space from be, still muttering about killing me and knocking down corn stalks. It was about 7:00 o'clock in the evening and within an hour and a half's time the sun would set so I had to act quick. I quickly began to think of the best way to take him out, not real easy being five feet three inches tall and one hundred seventeen pounds. So I began to think of all my Warrior Monk and martial arts training. Threw my mind I began to slowly channel all the strength I could threw my body. I was taught threw various sources about channeling untapped power threw a special mind trance. My heart was still racing from the run threw the fields so I had to slow it down a little and to breath slower and deeper. I closed my eyes and began to concentrate. I slowly began to channel the adrenaline that was flowing threw me in fear of the to get away, to my muscles to gain the untapped strength within my body. I also intensified, threw my mind, the blood flow to these muscles as well. I knew too I had to act quickly and wasn't sure if this would really work but I had no real alternative. I began to breath deeper and my hands were soaked in a cold sweat. Threw my mind I also changed my perception of being the hunted "rabbit" to become the hunter "eagle". Within a few minutes a wave of aggression came cross me as I could feel my power surging. I was also blessed with the fact that the mercenary was still some distance away. I slowly opened my eyes, my breathing heavy and full of primitive rage. My heart was pounding within my chest. I looked at my hands that were shaking from the adrenaline and blood flow. I stood up and swiftly began my hunt. I came closer to where he was moving, still making an occasional shout about "getting me". Soon I could see him threw the corn rows, he was now caring a knife. I had never killed another human before so this was at first very frightening but now all that was on my mind was to eliminate this "animal" that wished harm onto me. I crept up to the row of corn just behind him. An additional surge of power began to race threw me as I came closer to him. Then suddenly he spotted me and turned and swung his knife at me. I swerved to escape the knife thrust and grabbed his arm with the knife. I threw my body onto his, my legs wrapping around his to drop him to the ground. He fell, cursing me. A deep primitive growl of rage came across me as I wrestled him on the ground. He quickly lost his knife from his grasp as we rolled threw the corn stalks. Within seconds I could see within his eyes the shock of my attack , my power, and the fury within me. My body was almost numb with my single goal of stopping this guy. He then threw a few punches at me as we continued to wrestle on the field floor. I blocked them and began to whale on him with brutal fury. With my teeth clinched, a cold sweat coming across me, my muscles pumped with the incredible power I had untapped, I grabbed his throat with both of my hands. My legs gripping around his lower torso, holding him in one place. I squeezed his throat with such great power that I felt as if the muscles within my fingers would actually break the bones in my hands. His arms flailed at first but then he grabbed my arms, trying to release my grip, to no avail. His actions soon lessoned as his blood flow stopped due to my strangulation of him. He soon died. After he had succumbed I slowly crawled off of his body. Within a minute the fierce rage within me lessoned as I came to the conclusion that I had killed this mercenary threw my sheer physical strength as a result of my mind. I looked down at my self and noticed my right hand and elbow were bleeding, not seriously though. The stockings on my legs had a few tears around my knees as well. I was still shaking as the adrenaline continued to pump throughout my body. I could feel my arm muscles were extremely tight and bulged with an even greater size then normal. I also checked to see if he had injured my face. My hair was a mess but he had not hit my face during the fight. I also noticed a small tear on the back of my uniform I had received during the struggle. I stood up and began to breath easier and to relax my body. I looked down onto my dead opponent, thinking about why he had to force a fight and the folly of it all and I began to find my way out of the field. I stopped at a pond before making it to the farm to rest a little and clean up. The next day when I got to base I told my tale to my master Yamashidi. and my good friends Jack Yakama, Tang Fu Lii, and Melinda Fox. They all comforted me about the trauma of a first kill and complemented me on my resourcefulness. In all, I took away from the situation the knowledge that I had the internal will and power to defeat a larger person and that my good friends care and support me, in which threw their training saved my life. |
