Tonata's Game

After the July 24 assassination of CLG member Edgar Mertz, 64, the CLG has ordered a crackdown within the CM nation. Gen. Adams has sent Shadow Tonata and Zen Hojo out to give warnings to all CM elites that their activities will be monitored.

Shadow Tonata and Zen Hojo meet in a small inn and discuss their orders. Tonata says, "I'm so glad we finally received these orders. Adams' plans are really coming together. Now is our time to take command." Hojo says, "I agree. With Mertz dead, we need to let these elites members know who is running the show know. Yamada is on trial. Yamashidi is been ordered to stay at the Warrior Monk temple. Jill Matsmoti is under the CLG's thumb for the Quinn killing and is now under house arrest for now. It's just down to the Foxes and Tang Fu Lii." Tonata laughs, "No problem. I've been waiting to give them a 'warning'. They'll know who is in command now." Hojo says, "Who do you think killed Mertz?" Tonata says, "Probably the Demon Ninja or someone sent by Emperor Sanamoto for Royal Dragon's capture. Hey, one of the CLG could have given the order. You know Adams and Hammerstein are trying to vie for power under Guyers. I don't know .....or really care now." Hojo says, "I agree, one less general to deal with." Tonata says, "I'll see if I can meet the Foxes and Tang within the next few days. I'll make sure they know who their new boss is, hehe!" Hojo replies, "Good, I need to speak with Blaze and Flux about a secret gold mine that is now the focus of the CLG's attention." Tonata and Hojo bid each other farewell as they exit the inn.

The next day as Valerie Fox is practicing her archery skills in a field near the CM base, she hears a sound in the forest. Suddenly an arrow strikes the ground next to her. She looks up and Tonata appears laughing. He says, "Good morning Miss Fox. I see you're practicing. Good for you!" Valerie becomes angry and shouts, "Why did you shoot that arrow at me? You could have hit me." Tonata laughs and says, "If I wanted to hit you, you'd be dead." Valerie says as her blood boils, "You're messing with fire. What do you want!" Tonata walks down and says, "I just wanted you to know that you're now under my command. You will take all your orders from Blaze, Zen Hojo, or myself. You need to report to me every morning from know on." Tonata lightly touches Valerie's braided ponytail while laughing. Valerie knocks his hand away and hisses, "Don't touch me you ass." Tonata laughs and says, "You have fire within you. Powerful and fiery, you shall make an excellent subordinate." He looks her over and says, "Ahh, you break horses in don't you. Well, I'll have to break you in I guess." He places his knuckle blades to her chest and says, "Don't give me a hard time pretty girl." He then walks away laughing. Valerie's face turns red with anger, her fist clinch as she marches away.

Later that night Valerie returns home after a day of archery practice with her Blue Archers. She is greeted by JC Fox as she enters the cabin. JC says, "How has your day gone sis?" Valerie says, "Okay, but is Melinda here. I need to speak with her." JC say, "She is out in her falconry shed, what's the matter? You seem angry." Valerie says, "That jerk Shadow Tonata has made it clear that he's our new boss. Those Shockers really have let the power go to their heads." Valerie marches off to the falconry shed. JC says as Valerie walks away, "Please calm down Val."

Valerie walks into the falconry shed and sees Melinda cleaning one of the cages. Valerie says, "Mel, have you seen Shadow Tonata today?" Melinda looks up and says, "No, I really wasn't looking for him, why do you ask?" Valerie says, "That bastard shot an arrow at me this morning and informed me that he's our new 'boss'." Melinda looks shocked and says, "He shot a arrow at you?" Valerie replies, "He said it was a warning to me. The CLG has given them direct authority over us. He says we have no authority and we are to report to him every morning. I didn't know if he talked to you or JC? " Melinda looks at Valerie very seriously and says, "I'm glad you told me Val. Keep JC here for the next few days. Let him meet me first." Valerie looks into Melinda's eyes and communicate without speaking. Valerie turns as Melinda places her hand on her sisters shoulder and says, "Take tomorrow off, sleep in."

The next morning Melinda travels to the archery field her sister frequents. Melinda drinks a bottle of water as the heat of the summer's day rises. She shoots targets with her bow for two hours before heading home. Several minutes into her walk home, Shadow Tonata appears. He shouts, "Hey, stop right there scarecrow. I have to talk to you." Melinda stops and looks at Tonata as he emerges from the forest. He walk to her and looks up and says, "I have some information for you. I'm now in charge of intelligence work in the CM. You will be reporting to me, I have authority over you now. You will not have the freedom to do as you please as you did. Just report to me every day and you'll be okay." Melinda says calmly, "Did Adams give you this authority?" Tonata says, "Why yes he did. Don't question me either. You're a real weirdo and I don't trust you." Melinda says, "Why did you shoot that arrow at my sister yesterday?" Tonata laughs and says, "I see your sister told you about our encounter. That was what I called an attention getter. You'd be smart to keep her under control. She's got a real problem with her temper." Melinda looks at Tonata as he walks around her. He says, "Go home. Tell that goofy sister of yours, JC, that she is under my authority too. Tell Valerie to keep a calm demeanor around me or else the next arrow will be placed within her...hehe!" Melinda stays silent. Tonata looks at Melinda and says, "Go, I have things to do!" Tonata hears Melinda's knuckles crack as she moves her fingers. He looks up at her as says, "Be nice......Oh shit!!" With a quick, powerful motion, Melinda grabs Tonata's neck with her right hand and tears a large chunk of his throat out. Tonata gasps as he collapses to the ground.

Melinda tosses the handful of Tonata's throat she's holding, onto him. He gasps and gargles with blood before bleeding to death. Melinda grabs his feet and drags him into a nearby ditch. She cleans her hands in a nearby brook and throws a Demon Ninja Trooper's jacket near Tonata's body. She then walks home.

Later that day, Melinda arrives to her home and sees Valerie. Valerie runs to her and looks into her eyes. Valerie says, "What.....did you do?" Melinda says, "He's gone. I could care less about his arrogant attitude, but when he shot an arrow at you, he sealed his fate." Valerie says, "What did you do with the body?" Melinda says, "I dumped it into a grassy ditch. With this heat and humidity, the bugs will devour him within days. I doubt anyone will find him for months. I threw a Demon Ninja trooper jacket near him to throw off any inquiry if it arises. Only you and JC will know." Valerie say, "Yes, .....thanks Mel....thanks." Valerie eyes tear-up and she hugs Melinda.
